Posts in the discussion thread "iWork Feedback - Tell Apple You want ODF Support!" - If Apple stopped 'supporting' OOXML and their own proprietary format and supported ODF then we have a real chance of having the majority of Mac users using ODF

A sponsor is needed for permanent campaigners and lobby staff in Brussels etc. From a strategic perspective these market players should finance a campaign to keep Microsoft under interoperability pressure. Remember what AOL that financed mozilla's gecko was *paid* by Microsoft to stay with a IE engine. Investments into competition pay off.

I think they believe that OOXML has to be supported as Microsoft takes it as the default format for future word versions. But what they don't see is that it is possible that Microsoft adopts ODF or ODF+ if the ISO process fails and sufficient ODf promotion is made. Market Players as Google have the potential to promote ODF, European Governments and many large customers are ready to switch. And biff will dominate the market another 3-4 years, also having in mind that Office07 does not sell very well.

Apple was actually part of the Ecma committee that created the current OOXML standard and not invited to work on ODF.

Why would they consider using ODF after their joint effort on creating OOXML ?

Exactly. We need to promote ODF! See e.g. www.anyofficesuite.org

I have a suggestion for all OS X and iWork users. In Pages, Numbers and Keynote, if you open one of the programs then click, for example, 'Pages' then 'Provide Pages Feedback' it opens a form in your web browser to provide feedback to Apple.

I'm suggesting that if everyone who uses iWork and supports open standards were to provide this feedback to Apple, they may not immediately jump and implement ODF support in the next iWork but they'll sure know that a lot of people would like it and hopefully they would take our opinions seriously.

Keep promoting ODF people,

Jack.

edit: if you don't use iWork then you can get the feedback page here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html , maybe just tell them you would be more interested in the iWork suite if it supported open standards?
