Access of Evil

I do not like what Miguel says, or what he does.

says Richard Stallman. Context is Miguel deIcaza's 'superb' Open XML promotion. Fine for me.

/me does not like what RMS says, or what he does

Glen Woody urges the community to avoid a Great Schism. Schism? Drink more Glühwein aka Vin Chaud to get into the right mood, and kindly ask journalists to shut up when they simplify a conflict as KDE vs. Gnome. What I enjoy the most about the KDE community is how they always try to avoid to be offensive against Gnome developers. And there were so many good reasons to be rude. But why? It's Christmas time. Media is looking for simple fights but our world is far too complex. They want to see us all fighting against each other. The good old Arena. I take the bread now, but I won't watch the games as I am going to stab the emperor.

Project World Domino: New York State

It’s amazing what a small group of corporate lobbyists can accomplish to change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.

I don't think that's true. The Microsoft lobby against open standards is lousy and it is great fun to blow them away. So why don't you make the test? As we all read on Slashdot there are some questions to answer for you. Project World Domino NY. Please mind that the deadline for public comments is 28 September. New York State deserves a decent definition of open standards. So if you are American and you are bored about Christmas (or Muslim whatever) consider to contribute and answer the questions.

http://www.oft.state.ny.us/oftnews/erecords-study.htm

Please keep in mind that it is just a study concerning electronic record policy for New York State.

CDF or "SCO owns Linux"

The corresponding Infoworld/IDG article explains how a smear campaign works:

In September, the International Organization for Standardization rejected an attempt by Microsoft to use another standards body, … The next month, a group designed to promote ODF, the OpenDocument Foundation, withdrew support of ODF in favor of CDF (Compound Document Format). As 2007 closes, companies like IBM, Sun, and Google continue to promote ODF, while Microsoft remains the most visible supporter of OOXML.

Some Yedis

Erik wrote:

> XXXXXXX seems under control of the "dark side of the force"… :o/
Here are maybe some yedis:

OPEN DOCUMENTS AND DEMOCRACY A POLITICAL BASIS FOR OPEN DOCUMENT
STANDARDS BY LAURA DENARDIS AND ERIC TAM

http://isp.law.yale.edu/static/papers/Open_Documents_and_Democracy.pdf

Measuring Doug Mahugh's reaction time

Doug Mahugh (Microsoft), 20 Dec 2007

Breaking in the new guy. Speaking of Eric [White], he sent me a link yesterday that made my day: Doug Mahugh and the new horse. Guys, you don't know the half of what I'm doing to reprogram Eric these days (or what he's doing to reprogram me). And if you'd just get around to sending us that $2500 reward, we could afford even more reprogramming, and then you could blog about that, too!

The <no>OOXML article "Doug Mahugh and the new horse" was posted 8 Dec 2007.

Hint: Use rss/atom feeds. For KDE users: Akregator is your tool.

Here is our RSS feed and here is the DIS29500.org comment feed.
