The German standard body DIN organized a D21 lobby event about "eGovernment-Standards
für Wirtschaft und Verwaltung in Europa - Umsetzung der EU-DLR und europäische Standard" (23.11.07) which took place in the German Ministry for Business and Technology. The American company Microsoft kindly paid the costs.

Despite other speaking engagements for its national staff the American vendor discusses its Standard for document formats in economy and administration. Yes, it was about Open XML.

Also Gartner presented news on the European Interoperability Framework 2.0. Apparently the disclaimer of the EU-Commission on their study wasn't big enough. As you know the American Gartner group produced a vision for an EIF follow-up. But the PEGSCO wasn't very amused. We have news from several nations that Microsoft employees argue with their Gartner report against the EIF focus on open standards.

Which make me think of a new definition of open standards by the Digital Standards Organization: an open standard as "a published specification that is immune to vendor capture, at all stages in its life-cycle". DIN's Dr. S. Weisgerber seems to need some education on standard openness and dignity of the standard process.
