Mysterioustan

Dennis Byron made our day as he took notice of the Digistan project and its Hague Declaration for open digital standards. The Digital Standards Organization (short:Digistan) is mostly set up to carry out open standards projects like Domino in cooperation with regional chapters.

Unbelievably it calls itself Digistan, apparently to identify with the fascist terrorists based in countries and regions using the Farsi-based suffix stan. … If it wasn’t for the implied association with terrorism it would be funny.

So, Farsi is the language of Persia, today called Iran. The suffix "stan" is an ancient Indo-European root word meaning place. There are many words in English that use the 'sta' root, many nations in the world that end with "stan" e.g. Kazakhstan. No educated person associates the suffix "stan" with terrorism or fascism. So, what's next… a nuclear assault on The Hague by enraged legacy bloggers?

Human rights case

Another anti-Microsoft (MSFT) front group has emerged in favor of free and open standards, hyping what it calls the Hague Declaration and making some absurd connection to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Read it yourself and please sign. You may also want to contribute a translation, for instance to Farsi.

Digistan alleged sponsors that 'waste your money'

The vast left-wing conspiracy of George Soros works around the edges of their mostly web-site-only organizations.

Digistan was launched thanks to a grant from the Information Program of Open Society Institute (the George Soros connection) and matching grants from OpenForum Europe and the European Software Market Association. The latter does not list its sponsors but the former is the front group behind other front groups like NOOOXML and Document Freedom Day (that’s right it’s all the same bizarre cast of characters back again to waste your money).

Aceste drepturi şi libertăţi sînt acceptate astăzi de fiecare guvern democratic şi susţinute de constituţia majorităţii statelor;

Avînd în vedere că toate ţările tind, chiar dacă în ritmuri diferite şi plecînd de la situaţii diferite, spre o societate în care participarea integrală şi eficientă la guvernare şi la societatea însăşi şi accesul la serviciile publice, educaţie şi oportunităţi depind din ce în ce mai mult de accesul la comunicarea prin mijloace electronice;

Avînd în vedere în special că:

  • Informaţiile care ţin de guvernare, precum şi serviciile şi resursele, sînt distribuite din ce în ce mai des prin medii virtuale, nu fizice;
  • Libertatea de exprimare şi de asociere sînt din ce în ce mai des exercitate online şi nu în persoană;
  • Internetul şi Web-ul oferă o ocazie fără precedent de acces la educaţie şi oportunităţi pentru toţi oamenii, oriunde s-ar afla;

Avînd în vedere că, pe măsură ce realizăm tranziţia la o societate digitală, beneficiile oferite de Internet şi drepturile noastre umane cîştigate cu greu pot fi menţinute numai dacă asigurăm în mod egal accesul uşor disponibil la Internet şi dacă deschiderea Internetului este la rîndul ei menţinută;

Avînd în vedere rolul unic pe care standardele digitale libere şi deschise îl pot juca în asigurarea acestui deziderat prin încurajarea concurenţei şi inovaţiei, prin scăderea costurilor şi prin înmulţirea alternativelor;

Avînd în vedere că guvernele se află în poziţia unică de a se putea asigura, prin puterea exemplului şi prin metodele lor de achiziţie, că toţi oamenii obţin beneficiile pe care standardele digitale libere şi deschise le pot oferi;

Avînd în vedere că aceste beneficii prezintă o importanţă deosebită pentru popoarele dezavantajate din punct de vedere economic, social şi geografic;

Avînd în vedere că există un consens în creştere privind atributele unui standard digital liber şi deschis;

Facem un apel către toate guvernele pentru ca:

1. Să achiziţioneze doar tehnologie informatică care implementează standarde libere şi deschise;
2. Să ofere servicii de guvernare electronică bazate exclusiv pe standarde libere şi deschise;
3. Să folosească doar standarde libere şi deschise în propriile activităţi.

In Hungarian, I think "ban" means "place". What about Digiban?

Re: Alpha-lunatic attack on Digistan and the Hague declaration
sztevenszteven 1210965912|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

In Hungarian "-ban" is a suffix and in general means "in" (for ex. "in the newspaper" = "az újságban")

BTW: the article is a typical example of stupid american propaganda, where the mere usage of notions like "terrorism", "radical", "left wing", etc. in conjunction with (in our case here) free software activism and fight for open standards, could suggest to the closed minded, blinded folks that there's a connection between them…
It's a recipe: Put the things you want to blame in the title, and put together some phrases in text body (the more untrue and contrary to logic, the better) but be sure to mix in "terrorism", "radicals", with a little bit of "communists" and "left wing", etc. so the poor laymen can associate it with the things in the title. It's just that easy…

Ha, ha, ha! But after ROTFLMAO, just realize what a sad thing that the media can be bought at this level…

That was great humor. I don't think it was intentional, but I had my best laugh this week over what Dennis wrote. With enemies like him, who needs friends?

And the worst thing of all:

Wearing a tinfoil hat to deflect …mind-control radio waves is even more foolish than most people think. According to several (apparent) students from MIT who tested several hat designs, there was "a 30 db amplification at 2.6 Ghz and a 20 db amplification at 1.2 Ghz, regardless of the position of the antenna on the cranium." (source)

So what to do against The Hague Declaration and their mind control program? Russian scientists (read the Prawda!) found out that the Digistan website emits "sent me all your money" radio waves at 2.6 Ghz but these brave voices were silenced by the government. Note the activities of the Russian government to promote Human Rights in Brussels.

I believe we need to take this issue to a whole new and superior level. Soros Foundation is one thing. Digistan? A whisper of a cow on the surface of the pond.
Who stands (note the word's root "stan-" ) behind Soros himself?
The Free Masons!
And who stand behind them?
The Jews!
And who stands behind them?
The Communists!
And who stands behind them
The Unions!
And who stands behind them?
The metro trains drivers!
And who stands behind them?
The U.S. Government! (ah, there I smack you down, Dennis Byron-two pence!)
And who stands behind them?
The Aliens!
And who stands behind them?
Well, nobdy does, because at some point, we cannot go beyond the Aliens who live in Saturn, as it is the last sky before God, and as we know God stands right behind Saturn, as the great Ptolemeus demonstrated 2000 years ago.

Although I agree that digistan is a nothing in the grand scheme of things..
