Microsoft Office 문서 포맷이 ISO 국제표준이 되는 것에 대하여 반대한다

우리는 다음과 같은 이유로 전세계 ISO 가맹국들이 ISO DIS 29500 (Office OpenXML or OOXML format) 투표에 "반대표"를 던질 것을 요청한다:

  1. 기존에도 이미 공개문서포맷 (Open Document Format, ODF) 이라고 하는 ISO 26300 표준이 존재한다.: 표준이 두 개가 되면 업계, 정부, 국민들에게는 비용, 불확실성, 혼동이 더해지기 마련이다.
  2. OOXML 규격은 구현 가능한지 아직 검증되지 않았다: Microsoft Office 2007 은 OOXML 규격을 완전히 준수하는 파일 포맷이 아닌 조금 특별한 OOXML 버전을 생성할 뿐이다.
  3. 문서에는 규격에 대하여 빠진 정보들이 있는데, 예를 들면 autoSpaceLikeWord95 또는 useWord97LineBreakRules 을 어떻게 처리하는지에 관한 것이다.
  4. 제안된 표준안에 언급되어 있는 예제들의 10% 이상은 XML 로서 유효하지 않다.
  5. OOXML 규격 전체 또는 일부를 지원하는 소프트웨어 제작자에게 Microsoft 에 대하여 특허 침해 또는 라이센스 비용에 대한 부담이 없다는 보증이 전혀 없다.
  6. 이 표준안은 ISO 8601 (날짜와 시간에 대한 표현 방식), ISO 639 (국가명, 언어에 대한 코드 표기 방식), ISO/IEC 10118-3 (암호의 해쉬) 같은 다른 ISO 표준들과 상호 충돌한다.
  7. 스프레드시트 파일 포맷에 버그가 있는데, 1900 년 이전의 날짜에 대해서는 입력을 금지하고 있다.: 이런 버그는 Microsoft Excel 2000, XP, 2003, 2007 같은 소프트웨어 뿐만 아니라 OOXML 규격 자체에도 영향을 미친다.
  8. 이 표준안은 (제작자, 판매자, 구매자, 사용자, 조정기구 같은) 모든 관련 분야의 경험자와 전문가들을 초빙하여 함께 만든 것이 아니라, Microsoft 단독으로 만든 것이다.
